Here are 8 of the best rainbow songs for kids. Some are popular classics and a few are fun new songs.

Music is important in early childhood and songs and rhymes teach kids listening skills, language and much more.

These songs about rainbows are great for preschoolers and kindergarteners and will teach the colours in a fun way. Some are also appropriate colour songs for toddlers.

This mix of songs features favourites from, among others, Peppa Pig, The Wiggles, Super Simple Songs, Barney, and of course, The Wizard of Oz.

8 super fun rainbow songs for kids

1. Sing a Rainbow

This is the most popular rainbow song, and you probably learned this one at school. It’s easy to remember and will be a go-to when trying to recall the colours of a rainbow (even as an adult).

Red and yellow and pink and green
Purple and orange and blue
I can sing a rainbow
Sing a rainbow
Sing a rainbow too

Listen with your eyes
Listen with your ears
And sing everything you see
I can sing a rainbow
Sing a rainbow
Sing along with me

Red and yellow and pink and green
Purple and orange and blue
I can sing a rainbow
Sing a rainbow
Sing a rainbow too

2. The Rainbow Song

Super Simple Songs is my go-to for kids’ music. All their songs are great. Teach your kids this version.

I see a rainbow in the sky.
I see a rainbow way up high.
I see a rainbow, look with me.
How many colors can you see?

I see red, orange, yellow, green.
I see blue and indigo.
And I see violet.
The colors of the rainbow.

I see a rainbow in the sky.
I see a rainbow way up high.
I see a rainbow, look with me.
How many colors can you see?

Rainbow up in the sky with sun peaking out from behind it.

I see red, orange, yellow, green.
I see blue and indigo.
And I see violet.
The colors of the rainbow.

Rainbow, rainbow, rainbow, rainbow.
Rainbow, rainbow, rainbow, rainbow.

I see a rainbow in the sky.
I see a rainbow way up high.
I see a rainbow, look with me.
How many colors can you see?

3. Rainbow, Rainbow

Here is a fun rainbows song from the popular Peppa Pig.

It’s a rainy, sunny day
The rainbow’s here to play
Rainbow, rainbow
Red, and orange, and yellow, and green, and purple, and blue!
And indigo, too!
Rainbow, rainbow
It’s a rainy, sunny day!

Red is the color of our car, it’s the best!
Orange is the color of Mommy’s favorite dress
Yellow is the color of the sand on the shore
Green is Mr. Dinosaur, grr!
Blue is Grandpa’s boat when it’s bobbing on the sea
Purple is the bunk bed for George and me!
And indigo
Indigo? Do you know what color that is, George?
That’s right! It’s bluey-purple!
Oh, we love indigo!

It’s a rainy, sunny day
The rainbow’s here to play
Rainbow, rainbow
Red, and orange, and yellow, and green, and purple, and blue!
And indigo, too!
Rainbow, rainbow
It’s a rainy, sunny day!

I hope it rains again soon!
I love rainbows!
And muddy puddles!

4. Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Although this song doesn’t teach kids about rainbows, how can it be left off this list? It’s a rite of passage for every child and makes a good lullaby for bedtime!

Watch the movie and listen to the original version from The Wizard of Oz, by Judy Garland.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
There’s a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby

Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true

Someday I’ll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That’s where you’ll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why, then, oh, why can’t I?
If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh, why can’t I?

5. Rainbow of Colours

See them everywhere

8. The Rainbow Song

Here’s another cute rainbow kids song by Barney. Listen to the tune here.

Oh I like red it’s the color of an apple
Orange it’s the color of an orange
Yellow its a lemon and a wonderful sun, sun, sun

Green its the color of the trees and lots of things that grow
And then there’s blue for the sky
And purple that’s a color that’s fun, fun, fun

And when you put those colors side by side
Now what do you think we’ve done
We’ve made a rainbow
And it’s a really beautiful one, one, one

Oh I like red it’s the color of an apple
Orange it’s the color of an orange
Yellow its a lemon and a wonderful sun, sun, sun
And my favorite

Green its the color of the trees and lots of things that grow
And then there’s blue for the sky
And purple that’s a color that’s fun, fun, fun
And when you put those colors side by side
Now what do you think we’ve done
We’ve made a rainbow
Oh, we’ve made a rainbow
We’ve made a rainbow
And it’s a really beautiful one
