The Prereading and School Readiness Guide and Activity Packs for Preschoolers contain everything your child’s kindergarten teacher wishes parents knew about early learning! Learning to read and succeeding in school goes so far beyond learning the letters. This resource gives so many fun, engaging, and (mercifully) low prep activities to stimulate your child’s mind and get them ready for school in the ways that really matter.

As the mother of two preschoolers (ages 3 and 5), I want to make sure our daily activities will prepare them to succeed in school right from the start.  I really love this simple guide, which not only gave me clear checklists to help assess their development, but also provided concrete suggestions for how to incorporate preschool learning into things as simple as making morning pancakes together.

Tanja McIlroy

Hi, I’m Tanja!

I’m a former early-childhood teacher and the creator of Empowered Parents, where I share practical, play-based ideas that help young children learn naturally. After seeing how many parents felt overwhelmed trying to help their children and get them ready for school, I created this pack as an easy, done-for-you guide. It’s built on real classroom experience — including the same kinds of activities early years teachers use every day — simplified so you can use them at home with confidence.

Questions you might be asking…

What age is this pack for?
The activities are designed for ages 3–5, but many can be simplified for younger preschoolers or extended for 6-year-olds. The ideas are flexible and grow with your child.

Will I receive anything in the post?
No. This product — including all the bonuses — is a digital product, which you will receive via email.

Do I have to print the entire pack and all the bonuses?
No — you definitely don’t need to print everything. You can read the bonus guides, stories and activity explanations from a phone, tablet or computer, and choose to print select pages.
I would suggest printing the 12 monthly planners so you can keep the relevant one on the fridge door, or somewhere visible, as a quick reminder or overview. The weekly sheets can be printed a few at a time, or you may prefer to read them off a device.

Do I have to follow the activities in order?
Not at all. You can follow the schedule if you like, or simply pick and choose activities from the monthly planner. Do what fits your day, your child’s interests, and the supplies you have on hand. It’s completely flexible.

How long do they take?
Activities can last anywhere from 5 to 45 minutes, depending on your child’s level of interest. If they’re happily engaged, let them continue independently; if they lose interest, simply move on. Keep it flexible and follow their lead.

What supplies will I need?
Just everyday items you already have — paper, crayons, glue, toys, blocks and simple household objects. Most activities are easy to adapt, and you can use substitutes for almost everything. It’s handy to keep a few basic art materials on hand (like chalk, paint, glue and paper), but nothing special is required.

Are these quick, simple activities really beneficial?
Absolutely. Young children learn best through play, movement and sensory experiences. These short activities give you manageable, enjoyable moments of connection each day — without big prep or pressure.
Many activities naturally grow into longer play if your child is absorbed, and they can be adapted for younger or older preschoolers. They also put a fresh twist on the kinds of play children already love, helping them build important developmental skills along the way.
And if your child wants to repeat a favourite activity the next day, even better — child-led play is one of the most powerful ways to learn.

Imagine How Things Will Feel Once You Start…

Once you begin using the Activity Pack, you’ll quickly see the difference. You’ll know what to do each day, and your child will:

  • Look forward to simple, meaningful playtime with you
  • Grow more confident, curious and independent
  • Build real school-readiness skills through joyful everyday activities
  • Strengthen their thinking, language, motor and early literacy skills
  • Enjoy learning because it feels fun — not forced

And you’ll feel confident knowing you’re supporting their development in all the right ways, without guessing or searching for ideas.
